Cycling routes
Once you have rented a bike, you can go off and explore the Island at your leisure. If you want somewhere to start, why don’t you try one of Majorca’s popular cycling routes?
Lluc Monastery route
If you’re new to the art of cycling you might want to start with a nice ride along the Lluc Monastery route. This 30 mile ride is the perfect path to take for your first trip up into Majorca’s stunning mountains.
You start with a nice slow climb up the famous Tramutana mountain range via the gorgeous Coll de sa Batalla route. Then you arrive at the ancient Luc Monastery, where you have the chance to look around and experience traditional Spanish culture before taking a nice descent down the coll-de-femenia into the charming town of Pollenca.
Cap de Formentor lighthouse route
Are you more of a beach person? If you are then you might want to think about trying the Cap de Formentor lighthouse route instead.
A 25 mile ride, the path starts and ends in the same town as the Lluc Monastery route; the lovely settlement known as Pollenca. It’s a bit of a climb as it takes you up into the hilly terrain of a peninsula before you arrive at the pinnacle of your ride; the world famous Cap de Formentor lighthouse, which is well worth a few hours of your time. Along the way this route allows you to pass by some of the most epic stretches of sand that Majorca has to offer.
Around the orange groves route
However, if you’re looking for something a little quieter and more peaceful there’s only one route you should take. This 25 mile loop route takes you around the stunning orange groves of Majorca.
You start and finish in the hard-not-to-love traditional town of Llucmajor. Then the path will take you down some of the quietest little country roads in Majorca, whilst giving you the opportunity to ride through the citrus groves and small fincas the island has become famous for.
Around Alcudia
But if you want to stay closer to the resort, you can find plenty of good cycling routes near Alcudia. You could try the 30 mile route through the S’Albufera Nature Park, for instance. Here, you’ll be able to take a nice easy ride, along well-paved paths, viewing the fascinating flora and fauna that calls these wetlands home. Fascinating culture
Majorcan culture has developed over thousands of years, providing a unique holiday experience for today’s tourists. As well as enjoying Majorca’s fabulous climate and golden beaches, you might want to check out its stunning attractions, like the 14th Century Roman Catholic Sant Jaume Church in Alcudia, to familiarise yourself with the local culture. You may want to keep the following tips in mind, while travelling around Majorca, to ensure you respect and can experience the Island’s culture.
Learn simple phrases
You should find out how to overcome the language barrier before going to Majorca, so you can communicate with locals and learn more about this fascinating culture. You can learn simple Spanish phrases with phrasebooks, which you can buy on your local high street. You can also download apps like Google Translate to your phone. Available for Android, this app works with over 100 languages, including Spanish and has its own phrasebook.
You can also learn multiple languages, including Spanish, with apps like Duo Lingo. Available for free on Android and iOS, it features spoken and written exercises, to help you learn. With Duo Lingo, you also hit targets as you learn, keeping you motivated, as you become a Spanish speaker. Start using Duo Lingo now, so you can have all winter to learn Spanish, before visiting Club MAC in summer 2017!
Know their money
It helps to know the true value of items when going on holiday, so you can plan your budget wisely and buy authentic souvenirs, to remind you of your time in Majorca. Before you fly out, find out how much items generally cost in Euros, the local currency, so you can make transactions competently. As a baseline, £1 generally equals 1.1€ to 1.3€, but the exchange rate can fluctuate. You can change your currency into Euros at the reception in our Marte building.
Follow the etiquette
Majorca has its own commonly understood rules on how you should act in public. Familiarise yourself with Majorcan etiquette, so that you don’t appear rude to locals, sticking out. When greeting people, for example, shake hands with men, but kiss women on the cheek. If in doubt, ask the person you are talking to about appropriate etiquette. They’ll appreciate that you’re going to a lot of effort to fit in.
Embrace traditions
People like it when others show an interest in their culture. When in Majorca, try embracing Spanish traditions, so you can learn more about how to fit in. If you celebrate Christmas in Alcudia, for instance, you could take part in the chanting of the “Sibil-la” (Song of Sybil). Performed in churches throughout Alcudia, this is a traditional liturgical drama and Gregorian chant, which is just amazing to witness.
Ask Club MAC
So if you do some research before flying out, you will be able to embrace local Majorcan culture, providing you with a unique holiday experience. If you have any questions about local Majorcan life, remember that we’re always happy to help. You can pose your queries to our team via the live chat box on the Club MAC Alcudia’s official website to learn more about this fascinating culture.

Majorca is a top holiday destination for nature enthusiasts. There are a number of stunning natural attractions on the Island such as Jardines de Alfabia, considered the jewel of Majorca’s breath-taking Alfabia Mountains. Why should you check out Jardines de Alfabia while staying at Club MAC Alcudia?

There are a range of great walking routes across Majorca. If you’re looking for the perfect hiking destination during your getaway, head to Majorca’s iconic Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, which include the Alfabia Mountains.
Based not too far from Club MAC Alcudia, the Alfabia Mountains are situated in North-West Majorca. While walking through the Alfabia Mountains, you’ll encounter fascinating flora and fauna, quaint villages and farms, breath-taking landscapes and popular historical attractions. Jardines de Alfabia is the crowning jewel in the region and not to be missed.
Mix of influences
You can reach Jardines de Alfabia by driving west across the Island for roughly 40 minutes to Bunyola. The site includes a house, ornate gardens and an orchard. It dates back to 15th Century, when the Muslim-ruled Balearic Islands were conquered by Christian Aragon, a fore-runner of modern Spain.
Jardines de Alfabia is features a mix of Muslim and Christian influences. Its name is based on the Arabic phrase “al fabi” which means “jar of olives.’ Historians believe that the complex was designed by the territory’s Muslim governor Benihabet, who converted to Christianity after the invasion. The house was then re-modelled in the 18th Century, becoming a classic example of Baroque architecture.
Jardines de Alfabia
Jardines de Alfabia’s most popular feature is its striking gardens. When you visit, you can walk through a large, three-lane, tree covered, walkway to reach the gardens, arriving on a patio. Here you can view the gardens’ most famous feature – a pergola with impressive water fountains. It also includes 24 stone hydras and numerous water jets which cross one another, creating a fascinating water show.
You can also walk from the main space to a lower garden. This spaces boasts a more tropical flavour, with protected Majorcan palm trees known as garballons. Here you’ll also see bamboo groves, lily ponds and citrus trees, which produce amazing orange juice. Jardines de Alfabia is open year round, with entrance costing 5.50€ in winter and 6.50€ in summer, although children under ten go free.

Reaching Majorca
It is important that you look for flights to Palma Airport, as this is the only airport in Majorca. It is typically identified with the code PMI (Palma de Majorca) but it appears differently, depending on your airline. On Thomson they use the standard code. On Ryanair it will appear simply as Mallorca, using the alternative spelling for Majorca, while on EasyJet it will be shown as Majorca (Palma) PMI.
Once you reach Palma Airport, you can rent a car. Renting a car allows you to go off the beaten track, exploring hidden Majorcan gems such as the Coves del Hams caves and Es Calo beach at your own convenience. National Atesa, Avis, Herz and Europcar all provide car rental services from Palma Airport and as standard you will pay between 200€ to 500€ for one week, but it can cost more. We suggest you search for flights and car rental services via Skyscanner.co.uk, to find the cheapest deals.

Before heading to Club MAC Alcudia for a summer getaway, ask yourself: What if you lose your passport in Majorca? By researching this now, you’ll have the peace of mind to enjoy your time in the Balearics this summer!
Getting back home
The Passports Office explains what you should do if you lose your passport, or if it is damaged, stolen or expires while you’re abroad in Majorca. For security reasons make sure the old passport is cancelled and if it has been stolen, report it to the police. Then, try and get a replacement passport, but if you can’t do that then get an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) which will let you leave Majorca and come back home.
An ETD is valid for a specific journey, allowing travel to the UK or your resident country through up to five countries. It won’t guarantee entry if you need a visa, but you don’t need to worry for direct flights from Majorca to the UK. You can only travel to the destinations listed on your ETD application. If your plans change, you’ll need a new ETD.
Applying for an ETD
If you need to get an ETD while you’re in Majorca, you will need to contact the British Consulate in Palma. You will need to apply in person and the Consulate advises that if you’re due to travel within 48 hours of losing your passport, contact them as soon as possible. Otherwise you should make an appointment to visit the Consulate and apply for an ETD. Bring the following to your appointment:
- A filled out ETD application form.
- The £95 application fee in euros.
- A recent passport-quality photo of yourself.
- Proof of your travel plans e.g. booking confirmation.
- A police report if your passport has been stolen.
Keep it secure
To avoid needing an ETD, keep your passport secure while in Majorca. At Club MAC Alcudia, we ensure your peace of mind. Use the free safe in your room to keep your passport secure!
