Club MAC Duty Free

When you stay at Club MAC Alcudia, you can buy everything from traditional Majorcan items to wonderful Spanish souvenirs at really great prices! To make sure you can get these items back to the UK, you’ll need to know the official rules for bringing goods back home from Majorca in 2016.

Bringing goods home

Majorca and the UK are both EU territories, at least for now. You don’t have to pay duty or tax when bringing goods into the UK from Majorca in 2016, as long as you transport them yourself i.e. in your suitcase or hand luggage. The goods must be for yourself or meant as a gift and you must have paid duty or tax on them in Majorca, in order for you to bring them home without paying duty or tax.

Customs checks

If a customs officer, either at Palma Airport or at your arrival destination, thinks you’re planning to sell the goods back in the UK, they may stop you and check your luggage. They may ask you:

  • How often do you travel?
  • How often do you smoke or drink?
  • How many goods have you brought with you?
  • Why did you buy these goods?
  • How did you pay for these goods?

Alcohol and cigarettes

Under UK law, there’s no limit on the amount of cigarettes or alcohol you can bring back home from an EU country such as Majorca. However, you’re more likely to be stopped and questioned by a customs official if you bring more cigarettes or alcohol than a specific amount. These amounts are:

  • 800 cigarettes.
  • 200 cigars.
  • 400 cigarillos.
  • 1kg of tobacco.
  • 110 litres of beer.
  • 90 litres of wine.
  • 10 litres of spirits.
  • 20 litres of fortified wine.

Banned goods

There are some goods that you aren’t allowed to bring into the UK. These are illegal items e.g. drugs, indecent materials, offensive weapons such as flick knives, self-defence sprays e.g. pepper spray, rough diamonds and endangered plant and animal species. There are some food and plant goods that you can’t bring into the UK if they aren’t for your own use, or aren’t free from diseases and pesticides.

Peace of mind

It pays to know the rules of bringing goods home from Majorca in 2016. By familiarising yourself with these guidelines, you can gain peace of mind. You’ll be able to enjoy all the amazing facilities we have to offer at Club MAC Alcudia and explore this wonderful island, safe in the knowledge that if you buy something during your holiday, you’ll be able to bring it back home without any problems!
