Majorca's tipical food

Club MAC’s enviable location near the sandy beaches of Alcudia is a top draw with our visitors. The Balearic island offers the best of the Mediterranean, from exquisite vistas of sunny seas and rugged mountains to the old-world charm of medieval remains and picturesque villages.

We encourage our guests to explore the nearby attractions when they are not sunbathing by the Club MAC pools or enjoying one of the entertainment options at the resort. The Alcudia’s historic Old Town comes highly recommended and is a definite must-see in Majorca.

When at Club MAC, take a day trip to Alcudia’s historic Old Town

In the 16th century, pirates overran the Mediterranean, frequently raiding coastal villages. Inhabitants moved inland for protection and defense. Fishermen kept boats and small houses near the coast, but lived safely within the sturdy walls of old Alcudia.

During the tourism boom in the sixties, hotels and resorts were built along the coast. Since then, Port d’Alcúdia has become a popular tourist area. The historic Old Town of Alcudia, with its medieval walls and quaint plazas, retains quiet charm. Be sure to explore it during your next holiday at Club MAC.

Our recommendations of things to do in Alcudia’s Old Town

Visit the Roman ruins

Alcudia’s Roman heritage lives on in the captivating remains of Pollèntia on the fringes of the town. Founded in 123 BCE, the island’s prime Roman settlement was also the beginning of all urban life in Majorca. The three main areas open to the public are the Roman Theatre, the Forum or city square, and the residential La Portella neighbourhood. Round off your visit to this archaeological site with a visit to the Museu Monogràfic de Pollèntia where the exhibition of objects excavated from the ruins offers a glimpse into the culture and knowledge of the past.

Walk the old city walls

King Jaume II built a defensive system of city walls around the town in the 14th century as a precaution against external attacks. The reinforced square structure has an average height of 6m and a perimeter of 1.5 km with 26 towers distributed along the way. There is also a moat that has survived the passage of time. Along with the ruins of Pollèntia, the walls were declared an official Artistic Historical Site in 1974.

The walk is easy once you’re at the top and takes no more than an hour. It offers fantastic views of the old town and the Bay of Pollensa. There is no entrance fee. We suggest starting at the Porta del Moll o de Xara, the gate connecting Alcudia to the harbour, and then taking the Cami de Ronda passageway.

Shop at the weekly markets

Local markets are a weekly fixture in the villages of Majorca. In Alcudia’s historic Old Town, the market area is by the Porta del Moll o de Xara tower and is open on Tuesdays and Sundays. This is a great way to enjoy the local culture and support the local farmers and craftsmen. During the tourist season, the market spills out into the neighbouring streets and spreads out along the walls. You can browse, bargain, and buy anything from locally produced fruit and vegetables to leather articles and souvenirs.

Right behind is the main street of Old Town Alcudia, known as the Carrer Major, which is passed by the main square and is dotted with plenty of other interesting shops.

Visit the Church of Sant Jaume

A walk through the winding medieval streets will bring you to the beautiful Church of Sant Jaume. King James II built the original structure in the 14th century. The church collapsed in 1870, and the existing neo-gothic structure was built soon thereafter..  The church consists of a single nave covered by ribbed vaults with circular keystones and vegetal motifs. Natural lighting filters in through thirteen picture windows and a big rose window. The austere front of the impressive building ends in a pointed arch with the image of Saint James.

Stop by for some delightful tapas

Although Club MAC Majorca spoils you for choice with all-you-can-eat buffet breakfasts and buffet-style themed dinners, Alcudia is a great place for dining out as well. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants spread across the old town, which offer a wide selection of local and international cuisines. There are places here offering fine dining experiences, restaurants with sea views, tapas bars, bistros, and even BBQ joints. We recommend the Mallorcan tapas pa amb oli at Can Polit Tapas, Galician beef at Pipper’s, and paella at S´alhambra.

A couple doing some shopping at the markets by the natural lake

After a day of fun in the sun, the night market at Club MAC Alcudia is the perfect way to unwind and treat yourself. From locally crafted souvenirs to tasty snacks, there’s something for everyone. Get those Euros ready to shop and indulge while enjoying the warm evening breeze.

You’ll find a night time market set up around the lake, near the quiet area, which is present every single day . To whet your appetite and tickle your shopping tastebuds, we’ve written a taster of what you can expect to find at the market. Get those Euros ready – there’s something for everyone, from food, crafts, toys and much more

Locally made souvenirs

You’ll find a stand laden with beautiful handmade items that you’ll be dying to snap up and take back home. Whether it’s a present for people not with you, or a family memento of your holiday, you’ll fall in love with the craftmanship.

Choose from wooden items that can be personalised with your family name, or talk with the local craftsman who can make you anything you like out of metal wire.

The perfect toy

There’s everything you can think of at the toy stall. As well as traditional toys like cuddly dogs, toy cars and Lego, you’ll also find the ‘must have’ toys of the year, like fidget spinners. Whether you’re looking for something to play with on holiday or to take home and treasure, you’ll find the perfect toy.

Update your phone case

A personalised mobile phone cover is an innovative way to remember your holiday at Club MAC. It’s the souvenir you didn’t know you wanted. The craftsman has an engraving machine. They can create a specialist phone case from any type of metal you choose.

Take home an expertly drawn caricature

There’s nothing quite like a skilled caricature, and you can treat yourself to one at the night market. Go for a family pose, or just yourself – it’ll look great hanging up at home!

Get your kids a tattoo!

Don’t worry, it’s not a real tattoo. It’s a special salon that creates tattoo transfers for kids. They come in loads of different designs and are waterproof, so won’t get washed away in the pool. The tattoos will delight your kids and should last around a month, so will be a lovely reminder of the holiday when you get back home.

Waffles and crepes

Even with all of our lovely food on site, sometimes you just want an extra treat in the evening. The night market has a stall offering delicious freshly made crepes and waffles, with loads of different toppings. There are more than 15 flavour combinations, including strawberries, ice cream and Nutella. Delicious!

But what should you do if one of your kids has a little accident while you’re all out having a good time in Alcudia? We’d suggest you bring a first aid kit. Here are a few essentials you might want to include:

  • Medications: If your child regularly takes medication, make sure you have it with at all times.
  • Antiseptic spray: If your child gets a minor cut or graze, having antiseptic spray on hand can be very helpful for quick treatment. Containing a fast acting local anaesthetic, this relieves the pain of minor burns, bites, stings and grazes.
  • Plasters: Kids have a nasty habit of falling and grazing their knees from time and time. Pack a few plasters so you can patch them up right away if they stumble!
  • Dressings: For deeper scratches, it’s a good idea to include dressings in your first aid kit, so you can properly cover any cuts or grazes your kid might pick up while walking the streets of Alcudia. Also include support bandages, which are great for strains and sprains.
  • Painkillers: Ensure your child always has access to effective pain relief on holiday. Go for junior painkillers syrups and always follow the instructions on the product.
  • Antihistamines: Does your child have an allergy that could flare upon holiday? Include antihistamines in your kit, so you can give them the relief they need to appreciate their Mediterranean getaway. One tablet gives 24 hour relief and is suitable for children over six.
  • Re-hydration measures: It can get really hot in Majorca, especially in summer. Therefore, it’s advisable to include re-hydrations solutions and drinks in your first aid kit.

Macky & Misha: Where it All Started - Club Mac

Today we want to get all nostalgic and explain where it all started for Macky & Misha; the loveable Martians who ensure your kids have a great experience during their time at Club MAC Alcudia.

Kids’ paradise

Here at Club MAC Alcudia – a family resort based in the historic town of Alcudia and its port, Majorca – we do everything we can to make sure your kids have an awesome time with us. We’re lucky enough to count Macky & Misha as part of our children’s entertainment team. Two loveable aliens, Macky & Misha spend their days getting to know all the kids who visit Club MAC, but how did they come to live at our resort?

Visitors to earth

The story begins many years ago when a spaceship from Mars landed on sunny Majorca. The landing was bumpy, and the spaceship fell into a lake, but two crew members escaped.

Stranded, they lived hidden in the bush near the lake for a long time. They watched as a resort and waterpark were built, offering tourists a wonderful place to relax.

Joining the fun

Whilst they were building the resort, some workmen came face-to-face with the aliens. To start with the workmen were a touch afraid, but they soon realised they had nothing to fear from the two friendly little Martians, who they discovered were called Macky & Misha. After talking to the population of the nearby village and the owners of the stunning new resort, everyone decided to welcome Macky and Misha into the Club MAC family.

We even built them their own small house and swimming pool to make them feel comfortable staying at the resort. And the rest’s history. Since their invitation to stay, Macky and Misha have welcomed visitors from all over the planet to Club MAC, ensuring that everyone has a great time. These days they spend their time helping run the activities of the animation team at MINI Club.

They’ve also been kind enough to teach us about themselves and their home planet. They’ve regaled us with tales of their home planet; a stunning place filled with beautiful plants and lush, green forests. With their help our gardeners, they’ve planted a range of picturesque plants and flowers to provide guests with stunning greenery during their stay at Club MAC.

Play with Macky & Misha

Since joining the team, Macky and Misha have played and danced with all the kids at Club MAC. What started as a bumpy landing turned into a fabulous story with a happy ending. Two Martians came to Earth to make friends with your kids during their holiday at Club MAC Alcudia!
