Club MAC’s guide to packing for a beach holiday in the low season - Club Mac

Packing for a low season beach holiday is a bit different from preparing for a peak summer getaway. While you can still enjoy Majorca’s sunny beaches, the cooler days and occasional rain showers mean you need to plan your packing carefully. Keep these packing essentials in mind once you’ve booked your trip and are getting down to the brass tacks:-

Clothing

Low season at the beach can mean the odd shower, but in Majorca, it usually doesn’t last long and the day is soon back to sunshine! But the sun is more pleasant without the scorching temperatures of peak summer, so you should pack accordingly. Ensure you are carrying some long sleeve shirts and pants. Day temperatures are warm during the low season, but for cooler evenings and early mornings, it’s a good idea to pack a knitted top or a light jacket that can be layered with your vacation wardrobe. Remember that sea breezes tend to bring down the waterfront temperatures.

Accessories

Pack your regular toiletries but do not forget the sunscreen. You can get sunburnt even when the weather is less sunny. It is essential to use a high-SPF sunscreen at all times when you are outdoors to protect against UVA and UVB rays. For the same reason, carry your sunglasses and umbrellas (which will come in handy during the occasion spell of rain).

Visiting the beach during the low season can mean as much time spent doing activities like hikes and coastal walks as you spend in the water. Pack some multipurpose shoes along with your sandals or flip-flops. You’ll need sturdy shoes for walking on rocks and/or rubber boots for crossing rivulets or exploring the wetlands in Albufera National Park.

For your little ones

If you are travelling with babies or young children, remember to pack full coverage clothing, layers, and sun protection for them along with other essentials that ensure a stress-free travelling experience. Bring a blanket that you can put on their pram during evenings spent outdoors.

Also consider

If it’s a cloudy day or you’d rather not spend the day at the beach, there are plenty other things to do in and around Club MAC, such as these adventurous activities that are always popular among our guests. You can pack a phrase book that will help you get around Alcudia’s beautiful Old Town and medieval walls by yourself, and will come in handy when you want to do some bargain shopping for souvenirs. The local market in Alcudia runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and is worth the visit to town!

A binocular will allow you to indulge in birdwatching and perhaps discover a new hobby. The birdlife in Majorca is vast and splendid. There are more than 270 identified species, of which some are at home in the surrounding wetland all year round. You can also ask for available excursions at the reception, and we’d be happy to arrange one for you.

A beach holiday during the low season can mean having to put up with a bit of unpredictable weather and fluctuating temperatures, but it is a worthwhile experience once you factor in the cheap flights, thinner crowds, being able to experience more outdoor activities, and the chance to enjoy a peaceful vacation at a stunning seaside location with your loved ones.

mallorca cathedral

We may be a bit biased, but at Club MAC we believe that Majorca is the perfect holiday destination for you and your family. So, if you haven’t decided where to go next year, here are five great reasons to come to Majorca. We can’t wait to welcome you back.

Summer: Why is Majorca the place to come for the perfect holiday?

Majorca really does have something for everyone. We have endless sandy beaches, ideal sunbathing weather and delicious food. There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy all around an island that is steeped in history. And when you fancy a bit of modern-day city shopping you can head to our capital Palma de Mallorca.

  1. Beautiful beaches and picture-perfect weather

We are very proud of our beaches here on Majorca. There are at least 200 beaches to enjoy, with white sands and perfect blue-green seas to rival those in the Caribbean. Whether you prefer sandy beaches or quiet coves, there’s also a real diversity to explore.

Our very own Alcudia Bay is ideal for families, with seven miles of sand and handy facilities. Of course, perfect beaches aren’t much fun if the weather is awful. Fortunately, we have great weather here too. Temperatures hit at least 29ºC in the summer and only drop to around 15ºC in the cooler months.

  1. Delicious cuisine fresh from the sea

While we offer lots of different foods in our all-inclusive meals at Club MAC, Majorca itself is known for its seafood and Spanish cuisine. You should visit a traditional restaurant when you stay with us, and enjoy traditional dishes like Spanish paella.

There are great restaurants right across the island with many serving the very best in Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine. It’s not all about the seafood either. Vegetarians can try all kinds of vegetarian tapas.

  1. There are endless outdoor activities to enjoy

If you’re looking for fun ways to burn off all that delicious food, Majorca has you covered. The island has loads of adventures on offer, whether you’re looking for a family outing or want to go on an adrenaline fuelled trip. If you’re feeling adventurous, canyoning is a great way to see some of the island’s most beautiful natural wonders. Before you know it, you’ll be zipping down natural water slides and abseiling remote canyons.

We also recommend walking in the Mondrago Natural Park (try and spot a gecko while you’re there!). Finally, Majorca is also world famous among cyclists. It has the perfect combination of hills and great weather that makes it an ideal place to train (or explore at a more leisurely pace).

  1. Explore Majorcan history

History surrounds you wherever you go in Majorca and there are lots of historical sites to visit in Palma itself. The 2,000-year-old capital is home to the Cathedral de Mallorca, the Royal Palace of La Almudaina and the spectacular Castell de Bellver.

But the island’s history also stretches right back to prehistoric times too, and you can still visit the remains of villages like Calvia near to Palma. We are also very proud of the Roman remains at Pollentia, close to us in Alcudia. It was a strategically important Roman city and has an excellent museum.

  1. Discover the capital of the Balearic Islands

Palma de Majorca is also a modern, vibrant city. It has a world-famous nightlife scene with many excellent bars, clubs and restaurants to enjoy. And it is also the perfect place to shop. Enjoy browsing in bustling markets or in high end boutiques when you visit.

Palma gets very busy in the summer, but the city is big enough to find a corner away from the crowds. If you’re looking for a bit of culture, then the Es Baluard art museum is well worth a visit. There are also plenty of great family attractions here too. We recommend the excellent Palma Aquarium for an entertaining day out with the kids.

There is always plenty to do in Majorca and we offer a number of excursions from Club MAC Alcudia. To find out more take a look here.
