A family on the sun loungers by the swimming pool

Planning your sunbathing or shade spot at Club MAC? If you’ve been here before, you’ll know what to expect at Club MAC and from the beautiful Spanish island of Majorca. Discover the best spots to sunbathe or find some shade this summer.

Catch the sun at Club MAC while lazing by one of our pools

Club MAC encircles two natural lakes that are part of the S’Albufera wetlands. Whether you are a water baby or a beach bum, there is plenty of sun to be had in and around the half a dozen pools scattered across the resort.

The Saturno and Jupiter pools have separate areas for adults as well as children to have their fill of fun in the water, but the Dragon Pool is where serious sunbathers should head to. A splash pool with low level of water, the Dragon Pool provides sunbeds for your holiday intake of Vitamin D. Saturno, the largest pool, also has plenty of sunbeds scattered around the palm trees by the pool.

You can also relax and sunbathe near the main lake or any of the other pools. The lake is part of the area’s wetland system and offers pedalo rides and mini electric boats for the entire family. Of course, stay safe and keep in mind these sun safety tips.

Prefer to relax in the shade? We have you covered

Summers in Alcudia can get very very hot, and we always recommend taking a lot of breaks from the sun, so it is advisable to stay in the shade for a while between sunbathing.

There are some shaded areas around the pools –  the one next to the Marte building offers shade at certain hours in the day. The cluster of Jupiter pools also offers various canopies where you can catch the shade.

Action packed options for your summer holiday

This is only a snapshot of the things you can do at Club MAC Alcudia and we offer plenty more activities in our all-inclusive package holidays to keep you engaged during your stay with us.

But among the many other attractions of Club MAC is also the resort’s location at only a stone’s throw from the many beautiful beaches of Majorca. We do encourage guests to explore the 500 km of Balearic coastline, peppered with some of the best beaches on these islands. Planning a family beach day? Playa dAlcúdia is what we would recommend. Happy sunbathing!

How to have a relaxing holiday at Club MAC - Club Mac

Even those who like to be super-active on holiday need to kick back and relax at some point. Holidays at Club MAC Alcudia offer the perfect mix of activity and time to chill out.

We have plenty of sporting activities, excursions and things to do. But we also have everything you need for a laid-back holiday in the sun. May, September and October are usually a bit less crowded than the hottest months of July and August. But there are plenty of relaxing things to do throughout the summer.

Nine ways to have a relaxing holiday at Club MAC

We’ve put together eight tips for enjoying a relaxing holiday at Club MAC. Remember, we’re here to help with any information you need while you’re here too. Just head to Guest Services or Reception, and a member of the team will be happy to help.

1. Forgotten something? Don’t stress!

If you’ve just arrived and realised you’ve forgotten something, don’t worry. Not only do we have a well-stocked shop on site, there are also lots of shops nearby. You’ll find supermarkets, a chemist and souvenir shops just a short walk from the hotel entrance. The Club MAC shop stocks everything from snacks and sweets to inflatable and swimming costumes.

2. Take a break on your first day

After the packing and travelling is finally over, the last thing you want to do is feel pressured to jump into every activity going. Instead, take a break on the first day of the holiday. Find your way around, stock up on plenty of our all-inclusive food and drink and laze by the pool. It’s the best way to start your holiday.

3. Keep cool in the midday sun

All our rooms have air-conditioning so you can enjoy cooling off when the temperatures rise. It’s great for taking a break from the very hot sun in the middle of the day as well.

4. Ditch the digital devices

OK, so we don’t mean ditch your phones for the whole holiday. But take a few days away from checking emails and worrying about work. It’ll help you and the family switch off. When you do need to check something, don’t forget that there is WiFi available in all of our rooms included in the price, so you’ll be able to find what you need without extra charges.

5. Spend the day in the sun

Sunbathing is the ideal way to relax. Whether you prefer poolside or at the beach, it’s one our favourite ways to really chill out. Remember to stay in the shade during the hottest parts of the day, load up on sunscreen and drink plenty of water. With the right preparation, you can enjoy hours of blissed out sunbathing time at Club MAC.

6. Forget the diet – just for now!

Eating and drinking healthily is always a good idea – most of the time. When you’re on holiday, you can relax the rules a bit! We have three on-site restaurants serving food most of the day, as well as snack bars if you’re hungry in between. Our bars are loaded with plenty of choice, and if you are a Premium or Gold Band customer, you also have a choice of branded spirits. So, go on, order that cocktail and enjoy it while lazing by the pool – it’s your time to enjoy!

7. Get a massage in our wellness area

No matter how much you love being around people and enjoying the buzz of the resort, everyone needs some time out. We have a special relaxation area next to the main lake. This is an adults-only space where you can kick back and relax and sunbathe. There is also a beauty area where you can enjoy a relaxing massage.

8. Entertain the kids with our MACkids and Young clubs

The key to a relaxing holiday for the whole family is to keep everyone happy. We have different activity programmes for all age groups from four years and up. Whether your little one wants to be a Mermaid or Triton or your older child wants to try out sporting activities, there is something for everyone. After all, happy kids mean relaxed parents!

9. Get some beach time

What could be more relaxing than a day stretched out on golden sand? Hop on our shuttle bus to Playa d’Alcudia and settle in for sunbathing, swimming, reading and enjoying family time.

What did you forget to pack for your holiday to Club MAC? - Club Mac

Holidays are meant to be relaxing. It’s about making memories, relaxing with the family and enjoying time away from everyday life. At Club MAC Alcudia, we provide everything families need for a great holiday. We’ve come up with some failsafe tips for packing for the whole family. Follow these and take the stress out of packing for your holiday!

With eight swimming pools on site, free entry to the waterpark opposite the resort and fantastic all-inclusive food and drink, what more could you need? However, what you don’t want is to unpack on arrival and find you’ve forgotten something vital. Whether it’s mosquito repellent or a phone charger, forgetting to pack something can stress you out before you even start your holiday!

Packing tips and tricks for your family holiday to Club MAC

1. Make a list

Two weeks before you go away, make a list of everything you need for your holiday. You will definitely have forgotten something, but you will have time to add to it before you pack.

2. Take copies of paperwork

Take copies of the holiday itinerary, including all flight details, the hotel address and your home address. Pack a copy in every piece of luggage. If the worst happens and your bag is lost on the way, this ensures you have more chance of being reunited with it.

3. Pack as light as possible

It can be tempting to pack all kinds of extras ‘just in case’. However, this is just unnecessary weight for your luggage allowance, and the chances are you won’t use most of it. Take half of what you think you’ll need. For kids, pack whole outfits for as many days as you need, plus one for emergencies.

4. Give the kids their own bag

Give your children a backpack or small carry-on bag with toys and books to keep them occupied on the plane.

5. Divide clothes across suitcases

Rather than a suitcase for each person, divide everyone’s clothes across different bags. This way, if one suitcase is lost, everyone still has a change of clothing. It’s also a good idea to take a change of clothes in the carry-on bags, particularly if you’re travelling with young children.

6. Save bag space for all your holiday purchases

You’ll be bringing back more than you leave with – from souvenirs to gifts – so leave some space for goodies.

7. Sunglasses, hats and suncream

Majorca is the sunshine island and as soon as you arrive on our island, it’s clear why! We’re blessed with glorious sunshine most of the year. If you’re coming in summer, you can expect it to get hot. In August, the average temperature is around 31°C every day. While we’re big fans of the sunny conditions – and working on our tans – we think it’s best that all our guests are fully prepared for the weather. Make sure you bring your sunglasses, sunhat and sun cream to help you stay safe in the sun. With clear skies and sunny days on the horizon, you’ll be able to soak up the sun without any worries.

8. Swimsuits!

If you love to swim, Club MAC is the best place for you! From our big pool to the ones we’ve specially designed for children, you’ll find plenty of sunbeds to relax on in-between dips in the pool. We’ve got 7 amazing pools for you to choose from, including our fun river pool. Why not try them all and find your favourite?
You’ll also find the incredible waterpark, Hidropark, across the road from our resort! While you stay with us, you have to see what this amazing attraction has to offer! From slides to wave pools and floating water balls to splash pools, you’re in for a fun-filled day here. These amazing activities are a must for all staying at our resort and Club MAC guests even have free entry! What more do you need? Your swimming gear – don’t forget to pack it!

9. Pack medication in hand luggage

Always keep medication in your carry-on bags, rather than in the hold. Unless you also pack a prescription, it can be very difficult to replace any lost medications while away.

10. Take smaller bags

Rather than cramming everything into one massive suitcase, pack across smaller bags. This will make it much easier to navigate the airport and onward journey.

11. Don’t pack full-size toiletries

At Club MAC we provide shampoo in all rooms. If you want to bring your own, don’t pack full size bottles as it weighs your luggage down. Decant into small travel bottles and remember you can always buy more when you arrive.

12. Pack a week before you fly

Don’t leave it till the last minute to actually fill your suitcases. Use your list and tick everything off as you go. That way you won’t forget the vital soft toy or piece of kit that the family needs.

13. Check the weight of your baggage

Test out your bags and suitcases to make sure you and the children can manage them. Weigh your hold bags and measure your hand luggage so you know for sure you’re within the limits set by your airline.

Getting bitten? Here’s how to stop mosquitos ruining your holiday at Club MAC Alcudia - Club Mac

Everyone who comes to Club MAC for their summer break deserves the best holiday possible. We work hard to try and make sure this happens, from our entertainment team to our kitchen staff, the Club MAC team really want you to have a great time. Which is why we don’t want a mosquito bite to ruin your stay at Club Mac!

Remember that we do have a natural lake in the centre of Club MAC, and some of the entertainment is close to it. This does mean that inevitably there are some mosquitoes around, and we know how frustrating it can be, particularly when children are bitten.

If this sounds familiar, then this blog is for you. We’ve put together some advice, information and treatment options for mossie bites, to keep the disruption to a minimum.

Why do some people get bitten by mosquitoes?

Some people are prone to mosquito bites, and others happily avoid them with no problem. Statistics show that between 10% and 20% of people are particularly tempting to mosquitoes and tend to get bitten, even while those they are hanging out with escape it completely.

It’s not completely clear as to why this is, but scientists think that blood type and genetics play a part. Studies from all the way back in the 1970s show that mosquitoes appear to prefer skin with Type O blood. Half as likely to get bitten are Type As, and Type B people are somewhere in the middle.

Mosquitoes home in on their choice of human from up to 50 metres away, and evidence suggests that people who exhale more carbon dioxide are more attractive to them. This applies to people who sweat more, are larger or exercise a lot. Mothers to-be are also more susceptible, possibly because they have a higher body temperature than other people and are exhaling more carbon dioxide.

Effective mosquito repellents that you can use at Club Mac

As mosquitoes really like dark colours, choose lighter shades and white clothes to avoid attracting their attention. Of course, the best and most reliable way to keep mossies away from you and your family is by using repellent.

The most effective is DEET (diethyltoluamide), which although chemical-based, has a very high safety record. Evidence shows that a repellent that contains 20% DEET will keep mosquitoes away for up to five hours.

For children, DEET products with 10% of less are the best bet. There are also other chemical mosquito repellents that work equally well, including those containing icariin and IR3535. They all have a different composition but work in the same way – by releasing odours that mossies can’t stand.

If you prefer natural products, there are various on the market that include citronella, neem or lemon eucalyptus. While this smell nicer, they are nowhere near as effective as DEET.

If you are bitten, here’s what you can do

For some people insect and mosquito bites cause an allergic reaction. Symptoms include intense itching and raised rashes visible on the skin. Sometimes small blisters might form, although this is less common. There are a few ways you can take the sting out of a mosquito bite and make the victim more comfortable:

Take an antihistamine, either loratadine or cetirizine 10mg once of twice a day. These are easily available over the counter and will help to relieve the itch and any swelling.

Try a very mild steroid cream. You can buy hydrocortisone between 0.5% and 1.5% from the chemist, and these can reduce itching and inflammation. Never use any steroid cream on the face without a doctor’s say so.

Use a cold compress on the rashes to cool the skin.

Don’t scratch – however tempting it feels.

Try calamine lotion on the affected areas for a cooling sensation.

Not scratching the bite is the single most important piece of advice, as this can increase the chance of it getting infected. It’s very difficult to stop yourself scratching a mossie bite, and it’s particularly difficult for kids. If you’re concerned they have been scratching look out for increase swelling, any swollen glands or complaints of pain, and check in with the on-site doctor if you have any concerns.

Having said that, it’s very unlikely that a mosquito bite will turn into an infection during your stauy at Club Mac. They are generally just an irritation that can cause discomfort. Take steps to protect yourself and your family and you may well avoid getting bitten at all.

How to keep your stuff safe on holiday - Club Mac

We welcome thousands of people to Club MAC every season, staying at our three hotels on site. Whether you are staying in Jupiter, Marte or Saturno buildings, the team wants you to have the most enjoyable holiday possible. And from the moment you arrive at Reception, we aim to give a warm, welcoming and helpful response to any queries you may have. On arrival, the receptionist will direct you to your allocated room and explain where to find everything. When you’ve unpacked and settled in, all you need to do is enjoy yourself! But we know that losing a piece of jewellery, misplacing a toy or leaving something behind can ruin a holiday. So, here’s some advice on keeping your stuff safe while you’re at Club MAC.

Lost property

While everyone is having fun by the pools and racing around from beach to Port, it’s easy to drop something along the way.

If you have lost something, either in the hotel or in the grounds of the resort, then pop along to Reception. We can see whether it has been handed in and advise on what to do next. Similarly, if you find someone’s cards, wallet, watch, iPad or cuddly toy by the pool, bring it to Reception and we will reunite it with its owner.

What to do with your valuables

We’d advise using the safe. You will ensure any cash, jewellery or other valuables are locked away while you’re out enjoying yourself.

It’s worth leaving everything valuable in there, including mobile phones, watches and rings – just in case. You can never be too careful when it comes to your belongings.

Check the beds

It’s all too easy to leave something in between the sheets. This could be anything from an item of jewellery that has come off while you’re asleep, to an iPad propped up next to the bed. If you have lost something from your room, check with Guest Services that it hasn’t been swept up when your sheets were changed.

If something does go missing

We do all we can to make sure our guests are as safe as possible. However, occasionally the worst does happen, and items are stolen. If this happens, then your first port of call is the Guest Satisfaction team. They will help you by checking the available CCTV cameras. These cameras are located in the hall of the Marte. There are various cameras outside the Marte, pointing towards the main entrance by the shop. They are also in the supermarket, in the luggage rooms, and in all the corridors of the rooms.

They can also do a reading of the door lock. This will show who has gone in and out of your room. They can also help you fill out a police report. This report is necessary for you to claim on your holiday insurance.

We hope that you’re never in this position, and that you reach home with everything safely intact. It’s always a good idea to be extra vigilant when on holiday when it comes to your personal possessions. Whether you’re visiting us before 31st October this year, or have booked for next year, we look forward to meeting you soon.

How to Teach Your Kids to Swim - Club Mac

To make sure your family has a fabulous time at Club MAC Alcudia, this week we’ve decided to let you know how you can teach your kids to swim.

Underwater adventure

If you want to provide your family with the underwater adventure of a lifetime, you should fly out to Club MAC Alcudia this summer. A first-rate family holiday resort in Alcudia, Majorca, not only we have eight swimming pools, but we just so happen to be located a stone’s throw away from the Mediterranean Sea!

But your kids won’t be able to enjoy all the water-based activities they’re destined to encounter when they come to Club MAC if they can’t swim. Therefore, it may fall to you to teach them how to master this essential life skill, before you travel out for a week of fun in the sun-drenched climes of Majorca.

Five teaching tips

It can be hard to get kids to learn to swim, but if you use the following five tips, you’ll have your kids gliding through the water like pros before you set foot on Majorcan soil:

1)      Put safety first: Your kids will fail before they succeed. As a parent you need to create a safe learning environment, so your kids can fail without putting themselves in danger.

2)      Be positive: You need to build up your child’s confidence if you’re ever going to give them the ability to swim on their own. You should create a positive environment, so you can provide your child with the confidence they need to conquer the water.

3)      Progress gradually: Don’t allow a beginner to swim before they can paddle. You should teach simple swimming skills first, and progress onto more difficult abilities gradually, so you can give your children the space they need to master one skill at a time.

4)      Use aids: The best swimming instructors use aids such as flotation devices, kickboards and inflatables. These tools will provide your kids with the support they need to transition from amateur paddlers to expert swimmers.

5)      Make learning fun: Every school teacher who’s ever lived will tell you that kids don’t pay attention when they’re bored. Therefore you need to make learning to swim fun. You could, for example, employ the use of pool-based games and turn learning to swim into an underwater adventure of its very own!

Give your kids an adventure!

Teaching your children to swim will be tough work, but it’ll be so worth the effort. It’ll allow you to give your kids the skills they need to set off on an epic underwater adventure when they travel out to Club MAC Alcudia for the holiday of a lifetime!
