Here are our recommendations for the best beaches in Majorca - Club Mac

The island of Majorca is a prized piece of Mediterranean paradise. With its soft golden beaches, clear turquoise waters, secret coves, sandy dunes, and lush pinewoods, the popular summer destination is a beach haven for tourists. Club MAC’s prime location on the northern coast of the isle gives access to some of the best beaches in and around the town of Alcudia.

While there is plenty to do at the Club MAC Alcudia resort, from sunbathing next to one of the pools to sipping cocktails at one of the bars, we encourage guests to venture out and explore the beauties of Majorca to make the most of their times on the island. Of the 200 beaches scattered along the 500 km of coastline, these are some of the best beaches in Majorca.

Cala Formentor Beach

Cala Formentor or Playa de Formentor in northern Majorca is arguably the most famous beach on the island. This beach has blue-flag certification. People around the world know it well. Celebrity visitors like Audrey Hepburn, Charles Chaplin, and Winston Churchill came here in the past. The historic Formentor hotel has attracted celebrities for decades. It opened in 1927.

The exotic Formentor peninsula extends into the Mediterranean at the northern tip of Majorca. But it is only a 10 km drive from Port de Pollença, and the Ma-2210 route offers spectacular views. You can also drive up to the Cap de Pera Lighthouse from the beach to witness an incredible view of the sunset. These views, along with a dizzying drop, are what set Formentor apart.

The narrow sands and crystal-clear waters of Cala Formentor are girthed by forests of oaks and pines – a perfect spot for an afternoon siesta after a dip in the cool waters that reflect the natural surroundings.

Cala Mesquida Beach

Cala Mesquida is in northeast Majorca. It was declared a Place of Special Interest in 1991. The beach has natural sand dunes, rocky areas, and pine trees. This beach is unique and great for nature lovers.

The white sand beach hosts one of the largest cormorant and seagull colonies in the Balearic Islands. This highlights the vibrant flora and fauna here. The beach stretches over 300 metres. The waters are shallow for a distance, so enjoy knee-deep water sports.

There is a beach bar nearby, and you can take horseback rides through the dunes.

Sa Calobra Beach

The beach at Sa Calobra in Western Majorca is one of the prettiest spots to go swimming on the island, with its aquatic life and surrounding cliffs that make for some enchanting views. The way to access the beach is on foot through a tunnel in the mountainside, but the drive to Sa Calobra with its drops and turns is equally breathtaking.

The remote beach is wedged between cliffs that are 200 metres high, a unique feature of Sa Calobra. It is a shingled beach with stunningly clear waters, complemented by the twin Pareis streams that begin up in the mountains and culminate in a gorge by the beach. There are a number of popular hiking routes around the place.

Cala Deià Beach

Cala Deià on the west coast of Majorca is the idyllic meeting point of natural beauty and trendy clientele.  The pretty town of Deià has been frequented over the years by the likes of the late Princess Diana, Gwyneth Paltrow, Harrison Ford, Stephen Fry, Sting, and Heston Blumenthal.

The cala used to be a tiny fishing port once. A winding single-lane road leads from the town to the picturesque pebbled beach. Wooden escarpments shelter the area. It now has shacks serving simple, wholesome rice and fish. Check out Ca’s Patró; a few scenes from the BBC miniseries ‘The Night Manager’ were shot here.

While not the best place for bathing because of the jellyfish found in the waters, the beach manages to offer a sense of seclusion and peace. Flanked by pine-covered cliffs and olive groves, the panorama is the stuff of an Instagrammer’s dream.

Es Trenc Beach

Majorca’s famous virgin beach on the southern coast has retained its pristine beauty despite the crowds of visitors it attracts. The three kilometres of fine white sand run parallel to the transparent turquoise waters on the southern coast of the island. There are sand dunes and pinewoods here as well. The beach is now located in a national park and is well-conserved despite its large area.

Es Trenc has no facilities like showers or washrooms, but there are a few cafes. It is the most popular naturist beach on the island and there are a few marked sections for naturists.

Playa de Alcúdia

Close to the Club MAC Alcudia resort is the largest beach in all the Balearic Islands. This is a beautiful blue-flag beach that gently curves along the Port d’Alcudia. The shallow and clear waters, the fine white sand, and the tourist facilities make it a perfect spot for family beach days. The Alcudian beach gets busy in the summers but the low-key atmosphere makes for a pleasant experience even on peak summer days.

Beach holidays in Mallorca don’t get better than Playa d’Alcudia

The first thing that you will notice about Play d’Alcudia is the beautiful, white sand. Some people liken it to Caribbean beaches, thanks to its fine, soft sand and warm, shallow waters.

Alcudia beach is a blue flag stretch of coastline stretching from Port d’Alcudia. It’s lined with hotels and resorts, and there are plenty of facilities all around. The area has been welcoming visitors and holidaymakers for decades, and the main reason for Port d’Alcudia’s popularity is the gorgeous beach.

It’s the biggest beach in the Balearics with 7km of sand. Facilities on offer include beach bars, restaurants, lots of different watersports, public toilets, showers, sunbeds, parasols, WiFi connection and car parks.

Safe, shallow waters mean Alcudia beach is ideal for the kids

Playa d’Alcudia can be split roughly into two sections. The first goes from Port d’Alcudia to Ciudad Blanca and includes most of the facilities. If you head further into the bay towards Playa de Muro, it becomes quieter and more peaceful.

During high season, the beach does get busy, and this is when lifeguards are on duty. They are not there for the entire holiday season (May to October), so it’s always wise to be safe and get your kids to wear armbands and take floats.

Families in particular love Alcudia beach thanks to its safe, relatively shallow waters. The turquoise water is lovely to paddle in. Swimming is also possible although you will have to walk out until you reach deeper water.

Watersports and activities at Alcudia beach

The sand stretches for 7km and is around 80m deep. This means plenty of space for everyone, even during the busiest months. There are wooden walkways towards the back of the beach to make it easy to access for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

And when you’ve had your fill of sunbathing on golden sand, you can take part in different water sports. A variety of boat trips start from the beach, ranging from diving. expeditions to short cruises. To find out about boat trips, diving and other excursions, visit Guest Services or Reception and we can help you book beach-based fun.

Other activities include beach sports, banana boats, canoeing, scuba diving, fishing, inflatables, pedalos, paddle-boarding, excursions and other water sports. These are all bookable at the beach itself, and not through Club MAC.

How to get to the beach from Club MAC

To get to the beach from Club MAC, you can take an easy 15-minute walk. Or you can hop on our complementary shuttle bus that runs between the resort and the beach. The bus is free and runs from 10am to 5pm leaving from the main gate at Club MAC. The timetable is available on the Club MAC app, the Resort section of our website and pinned up outside the gates.

Playa d’Alcudia is always popular with Club MAC guests. To find out what people think of the beach, take a look at TripAdvisor, where you will see plenty of excellent reviews.

Activities at the beach

If you feel more energetic than a cruise, and don’t fancy full-on diving, then there are loads of fun things to do at the beach. Companies rent out pedalos, banana boats and ringos among other activities. There are also a few different diving centres nearby for those taking their water activity a bit more seriously.

kid snorkelling in the sea

Club MAC Alcudia features a range of swimming pools, two natural lakes and is based near some of Majorca’s most popular beaches. When visiting our resort this summer, you can try exciting water-based activities such as snorkelling, which is perfect for the kids. If this sounds like something you want to try, check out the following five snorkelling tips for beginners!

Find the right mask

Before you take to the water, you need to find a snorkelling mask. If you buy an ill-fitting mask, water might seep in while you’re swimming! As a rule of thumb the mask should stay in place without you having holding it, fitting snugly at the widest area of your head. If water does start flowing in when you’re snorkelling, adjust the straps at the back to fix the problem!

Learn to defog

Sometimes when you’re snorkelling the mask can fog-up, blocking your vision. It’s really important that you learn how to defog your mask, so you can see where you’re going! If you go online you’ll see a range of tricks on how to defog when snorkelling such as applying a mix and baby shampoo and ocean water. Experiment before you go snorkelling so you can find the solution that works best!

Practise breathing

Breathing is one of the biggest challenges of snorkelling. Find a way to breathe steadily through the mask, so you can snorkel without constantly coming up for air. We’d suggest that you practise breathing through your mask before you get into the water, so you can get the hang of it. Make sure that you don’t bite the tube when breathing, or your jaw will get really sore really fast!

Do some research

It’s really important that you do some research before you go snorkelling, so you can yourself safe at all times. Learn the rules of staying safe when swimming so you can glide through the water with the peace of mind needed to enjoy your snorkelling experience. Also find out where the lifeguards are stationed and look up the rules of the area were your swimming, so you always stay safe.

Buddy up

There’s strength in numbers! If you’re new to all this, you might want to think about finding a snorkelling buddy. You can keep each other safe and appreciate everything this fun water sport has to offer together! We should note that if you’re going snorkelling with your kids, you should stick close to them at all times, so you can help them out if they experience any problems!

Enjoy the water

Snorkelling is great family activity. It gives you the chance to bond while discovering a whole new underwater world, making wonderful holiday memories you’re sure to treasure forever. If you and your family are beginners, make sure you know what you’re doing so you enjoy swimming through the water when you visit Club MAC Alcudia this summer!

We want to make sure you have an amazing time when you come stay at Club MAC Alcudia, which is why we’ve decided to let you know how to stay safe when swimming at sea. Follow these sea swimming safety tips to enjoy your holiday with peace of mind.

Perfect beach holiday

The location makes the holiday, and when you fly out to Majorca you won’t find a better location than Club MAC Alcudia. We’re based near the Majorcan tourist hotspot of Alcudia Bay, which has one of the best beaches in the Balearics.

This means that when you come to Club MAC Alcudia you’re destined to have the perfect beach holiday, as long as you remember to stay safe at all times. Here are a few tips you can use to make sure you stay safe whilst you’re gliding like a swan through the idyllic waters of Alcudia Bay.

Mallorca’s number 1

Alcudia’s beach is one of the most popular amongst residents with locals coming from all over Mallorca to visit its shaded pine groves. Spaniards enjoy spending Sunday’s with a picnic and their families. The clean waters and long beach make it very safe for small children.

Before you swim

You need to start thinking about how to stay safe before you dip even one toe into the Mediterranean. Start by researching the beach before you fly. Make sure there’ll be life guards who can help you stay safe when you swim out to sea.

For more official beach safety guidelines, check out Majorca’s Beach Safety Rules before your trip.

When you swim

You need to keep your wits about you at all times when you’re swimming at sea. Most importantly, we’d suggest that you look out for hazard signs which give you the vital information you need to stay safe in the water. When swimming in Mallorca you will find special areas for swimming and special areas for boats to come ashore.

Using inflatables

We want to take a minute to discuss using inflatables, e.g. water wings, at sea. They can keep you safe whilst you’re doing a few lengths in the Club MAC Alcudia pools, but they’re lightweight. This means that the tide can sweep them away when you’re swimming in the sea if you’re not careful. If your children need inflatables, make sure they stay within your line of sight whilst they’re frolicking in the refreshing waters of Alcudia Bay.

Strong winds

Finally, we need to take a moment to discuss what you should do when you’re swimming at sea and you encounter strong winds. Sometimes strong winds can cause swimmers to end up further ashore and pushed sideways in the sea. Please make sure you keep an eye on your children because they can get dragged out ashore to a point when they can’t see their parents.

Stay safe

Safety should always come first. If you use these sea swimming safety tips, you’ll make sure that you have fun and stay safe when you dip into the waters of Alcudia Bay, so you’ll be able to walk away from your stay at Club MAC Alcudia with memories you’ll cherish forever!
