What You Need to Know About the New EES System before visiting Club Mac

If you’re planning a holiday at Club MAC Alcudia and you’re a non-EU citizen, such as someone travelling from the UK, it’s important to know about the Entry/Exit System (EES) — a new automated system being introduced across the Schengen area.

What is the EES?

The Entry/Exit System replaces the traditional passport stamping at EU borders. Instead of getting a stamp, border authorities will record:

  • Your passport information
  • A facial image
  • Up to four fingerprints (for travellers who don’t require a visa)

This system automatically tracks when you enter and leave the Schengen area, helping calculate the 90-days in 180-days rule for short stays.

When Does the EES Start?

The EES will begin operation on 12 October 2025, but its rollout will be gradual over six months. Full implementation — meaning the system will be in use at all EU external borders — is expected by 10 April 2026.

During the rollout, some borders may still stamp passports or use older methods if things get busy.

How Does It Affect You as a Traveller?

If you’re visiting Majorca from the UK or another non-EU country:

  • On your first crossing, you’ll register biometrics (photo + fingerprints) along with your passport.
  • Subsequent crossings will be faster using the data already stored, unless your passport changes.
  • Children under 12 are generally exempt from fingerprinting.

It’s worth noting that the EES is free of charge. This is different from the ETIAS travel authorisation, which will come into effect eventually once the EES has been fully rolled out and may incur a small fee.

Tips for a Smooth Border Experience

To make your journey through the EES as smooth as possible:

  • Check your passport: Make sure it’s valid and, if needed, has a biometric chip.
  • Allow extra time: Especially during the early rollout, border checks may take slightly longer.
  • Be ready at the border: Have your passport ready, let them take your photo, and provide fingerprints if required.
  • Future trips will be faster: Once your data is stored, crossing borders will be quicker unless your passport details change.
  • Remember: EES only records entry and exit data — it does not change visa rules or your allowed days in the Schengen area.

If you bear these points in mind, you can ensure that your holiday at Club MAC Alcudia starts off stress-free and that you are ready for a fun-filled family holiday!
