Step-by-Step Guide to Treating a Mosquito Bite

Harmless though it is, you shouldn’t let a mosquito bite ruin your week of fun in the sun. Follow this guide and treat the bite in no time, so you can get back to enjoying your fantastic family getaway…

  • Protect Yourself: Before you think about treating a mosquito bite, you may want to think about how to protect yourself from receiving one first. Protect yourself from a mosquito bite by wearing protective, light-coloured clothing and spraying yourself with insect repellent i.e. DEET. At the Club MAC Alcudia on-site shop you can buy mosquito repellents in the form of bracelets, lotions, sprays and wipes.
  • Relieve the Symptoms: If prevention doesn’t work the best way to deal with a mosquito bite is to treat it symptoms. This’ll stop you from scratching yourself so the bite can heal on its own. The best way to prevent scratching is to spread chamomile lotion or hydrocortisone cream on and around the bite. Ice cubes may also help relieve the symptoms.
  • Step it Up: If conventional measures aren’t working, you may want to step up your game to treat a mosquito bite. Try topical anti-itch lotion or athlete’s foot spray to relieve the symptoms of a mosquito bite so it can heal on its own.
  • Take Medication: In most cases the above measures should prove enough to treat a mosquito bite, however you may need to take further action if the bite has prompted a medical condition such as an allergic reaction. In cases such as these you may want to take oral antihistamines i.e. Claritin (called Civeran in Spain), Benadryl or Afterbite. Meanwhile in the case of hives you should take a cool bath; use no soap. Always seek medical advice before you treat a mosquito bite that has prompted a medical condition.
