Club-MAC-PollentiaAt Club MAC Alcudia we understand that family holidays are all about having fun, which is why we have a wide variety of in-hotel based entertainment. However, treating your kids and yourself to a little history lesson can also be just as fun.

Learn about Alcudia’s past

Located in Port d’Alcudia, a perennially sunny Spanish town in the Northern reaches of Majorca, Club MAC Alcudia is an outstanding family resort. We know that when you jet off for a week of fun in the sun, you want to walk away with memories that will last a lifetime.

As we mentioned in our ‘Five Tips for Enjoying a Stress Free Holiday’ blog, learning something new can be excellent way to enjoy your holiday. An effective way to keep your children engaged is to plan some educational experiences, so why not visit Pollentia?

What is Pollentia?

The former Roman town of Pollentia, in the municipality of Alcudia, is the most important archaeological site of the Balearic Islands.

Pollentia is the former capital of the islands in the age of the Republic and the Empire. It was founded in the year 123 BC by the Roman consul Quintus Caecilius Metellus.

Tourists can now visit its forum, the Roman Theatre, and what was the residential area. Also, a monographic museum houses the pieces recovered during the archaeological excavations held to date.

There is more than just Pollentia to discover

Alcudia has a treasure-trove of ruins, museums and tombs to explore. Alcudia has a citadel which contains many nooks and crannies and activities waiting to be discovered. The highest point is the mountain of Sa Talaia, in the La Victoria nature area, an on its peak are the remains of a group of watchtowers which communicated with other strategic points along the coast fire and smoke signals.

Meanwhile, the Ethnological Museum of Muro contains a significant display of typical Mallorcan agricultural tools, as well as valuable collections of Mallorcan ceramics, siurells and nativity scenes.

Discover Alcudia and enjoy the Trip of Lifetime

Alcudia is steeped in history and Club MAC Alcudia recommends making a day trip to any of the above places a part of your holiday. Remember though, that you will be out in the open so make sure that you keep your family well hydrated with plenty of fluids!
